Parnassius clodius
When I saw this butterfly come in and land, I thought it must be a moth, but
after I studied it for awhile, I thought it could be a butterfly, although I'd never
seen one like it before. The closer I got to it, the more it went down into the tall
grasses not far from the stream.  © Carol Davis 8-1-2017

Trying to find a spot between the blades of grass where I could get a photo was
crazy.  These were as good as I could get. You can tell it's a very worn specimen.
The area I found it in was in the level spot in Big Cottonwood Canyon near the
beaver ponds and the meandering stream
