I found this little beauty flitting around the flowers on the road to Lytle Ranch in Washington County, Utah.
I love all the dark and light "feathers" poking out on its head and the striped antennae.  © Carol Davis 5-12-2013

The wings of this little butterly contain subtle colors mixed in the brownish-black such as, purple,
gold and green
Bugguide.net says the caterpillars of this species feed on plants in the Amaranth
