Queen
Danaus gillipus

The beautiful Queen is one of the "milkweed
butterflies." She is
adorned with bright colors, both as a caterpillar and as a butterfly,
to
help ward off predators. The poisonous milkweed is the mainstay diet
of the Queen and makes her a nasty-tasting meal. ©Denise Blyn, 2005
