Agrilus walsinghami - Part I  (three photos)
Metalic Wood-boring Beetle

Agrilus walsinghami grouping
The first thing I saw on this rabbitbrush was a large clump.  I turned off my car and moseyed over.

I could then tell there were four insects and they might be Agrilus metallic wood-boring beetles.

The female, of course, is in the middle and three males are grouped around her. I used the flash on my camera
to illuminate the insects better and it really brought out the colors in them.   It's evident the males are more
bronze-colored while the female is a gorgeous metallic blue.  Beautiful insects!  © Carol Davis, 8-16-2009
