Digger Bee
"cuckoo bee"
Genus Ericrocis lata

black and white striped bee
I found a bunch of these bees dining on pollen on a little bush on the road to Lytle Ranch in
Washington County, Utah.  They were gorgeous!  Carol Davis, 5-12-2013

Ericrocis lata bees (this one formerly misidentified by me as Xeromelecta) are cleptoparasites of other digger
bees, that is, they lay their eggs in other bees
nests and their larvae eat the food of the host larvae.  Host bees
include ones from the genus Centris, such as this one.
