Face Fly  (two photos)

Some flies give all flies a bad name:  I found a bunch of these flies hanging around a post near
some corrals at Garr Ranch on Antelope Island. According to Bugguide.net, these flies drive cattle
and horses crazy by hanging around on their faces feeding on body secretions and by slurping up
oozes created by horsefly bites (oooh, yummy). They apparently like to sunbathe in groups, just
like I found them doing in the photo below.   © Carol Davis 4-26-2013

on these party guys. © Carol Davis 4-26-2013
