Fruit Fly - Part II   (two photos)
Genus Paracantha

I saw this little fruit fly land on a sunflower plant and decided to try to get a shot.  The day was overcast and
a little rainy at times so I think it was making the bees and flies a little lethargic.  This one let me take its
photo and never even flinched.  Lucky me.  Some of the species in the genus Paracantha lay eggs on
sunflowers where their maggots hatch.  © Carol Davis, 8-23-2009
