When I first saw this from a distance I thought it was a
striped spider. I did a little two-step in Red Butte Garden
 (yes, that was me, again), when I realized it was a beetle
I had never seen before (and, likewise, it had never

As you can see, it has a little spot spot on its tush.
Not too attractive, but it will help you recognize this
species the next time you see it.
