Leafhopper Assassin Bug
Zelus renardii

assassin bug
Leafhopper Assassin Bug near St. George, Utah.  Assassin Bugs are predatory and very beneficial, although they should not be handled
because they can inflict a painful bite if harassed.  This one is different from the other assassins I have seen because it is mostly green
and has a rich brown color on the top.  I'm always excited to find an assassin because they are so good at hiding and if  I do catch
one in the open, it is quick to retreat.  This one was most cooperative. © Carol Davis, 10-18-2008
