Long-horned Beetle
Neospondylis upiformis
Pretty ferocious-looking, huh? © Carol Davis 6-14-2015
Here it just looks like it's taking in the scenery at Strawberry Reservoir (the photo is
turned sideways - water is to the left). © Carol Davis 6-14-2015
This Long-horned Beetle was trying to get away from me but was baring its chompers
in the meantime. It struggled to make it to the top of the stick so it could go airborne,
I think. It seemed to be pretty cranky. © Carol Davis 6-14-2015
I finally left this one-inch monster to itself. You can read more about Long-horned Beetles
and their destructive ways here on Bugguide. There isn't much information yet on this
particular invasive species but there is an old article from 1915 published
by the Acadian Entomological Society here. © Carol Davis 6-14-2015
