According to How to Know the Insects by Roger Bland, larvae of Marsh Flies feed on aquatic
insects such as snails and slugs so they are considered a beneficial insect and are often introduced
into an area for pest control.  The Utah State Extension Service has an excellent page showing
different flies in the larval stage (including a marsh fly) that are found in Utah
ponds & rivers. Carol Davis 7-12-2009
