Sand Wasp  (two photos)
Stizoides renicinctus

Stizoides renicinctus
I saw this male wasp on a sunflower plant on Antelope Island and I only got
one good shot. It didn't pause long in any one place.  © Carol Davis 9-13-2015

black wasp with orange stripe
I had to sharpen this photo a lot but you can get a pretty good idea of what the wings
look like - they have a transparent strip right at the end.  This particular Sand Wasp
is a kleptoparasitic wasp and if you want to check out
Eric Eaton's site, he does
a great job of explaining what that means. © Carol Davis 9-13-2015
