Shield-backed Bug  (two photos)
"Jewel Bugs"
Homaemus aeneifrons

I get excited when I find any insect that  I've never seen before, and this
was one of those. It was
hanging around in the Jordanelle Dam wetlands.
Many immature (and some adults) in this family can be just beautiful and
earns them the nickname "Jewel Bugs".  Here's one of my favorite examples
from Carol Davis, 9-30-2012

Shield-backed Bugs look like their cousins the Stink Bugs and are
 in the same Family
, Scutelleridae. They are "vegetarians" and are not
really welcome anywhere but they do provide food for
and other "non-vegetarians".  Carol Davis 9-30-2012
