Spider Wasp  (two photos)
Aporinellus

gray and black wasp

Aporinellus
Now, I have to admit that this wasp was unusually pleasant, consenting to letting me photograph
it without getting all hot and bothered and flying off to safer pastures. I had only seen one of
these before and it was for just a fleeting moment.  They are very beautiful and seem to
favor Antelope Island.
Spider wasps plant a spider in their burrow to feed the baby wasps
when they hatch.  The adults feed on flowers.
I love those big eyes, curlycue antennae
and cute outfit--all dressed up, places to go, fun to be had!   © Carol Davis, 7-23-2009
