Stiletto Fly  (two photos)
Family Therevidae

fly
The little Stiletto Fly somewhat resembles a Robber Fly and hunts insects
just like it.  The larvae are  predaceous, as well. Carol Davis 6-12-2009

Garden Safari has a neat page about Robber Flies, Dance Flies and
Stiletto Flies. Because these flies are rather reclusive, this one thought I'd
never spot it so it landed on the edge of my car right next to where I was
sitting in the Kolob Canyon Overlook near Cedar City, Utah.
