When I saw this in the Jordanelle dam wetlands in the Heber Valley area

The larvae of these sawflies feed on alder, willow, and birch.

It was tough shooting these photos as the sawfly was trying to get
 away without actually leaving the tree.  I got enough information
for the experts at to identify it as as adult Striped Alder
