Syrphid Fly
Genus Chrysotoxum

Chrysotoxum fly
A person's first thought when they saw this chunky insect might be that had to
be a bee.
There are lots of striped bee-mimics in nature.  © Carol Davis 8-1-2017

Syrphid Flies are some of the most beautiful of all the flies.  They do not sting (they
don't have a stinger). This one was flitting around
in the Uintas in
Summit County, Utah.  © Carol Davis 8-1-2017
