Syrphid Fly Larva  (two photos)
Family Syrphidae

syrphid fly larva
You might look at this small larva and think it is a caterpillar, but it is a Syrphid Fly larva.  It likes
to eat insects, like aphids, and when it matures it will turn into a Syrphid Fly. This one is
scanning the leaves for anything to munch on.   © Carol Davis 5-1

fly larva
When you think of fly larvae you automatically think of maggots on rotting animals but these fly
larvae are
beneficial for your plants.  I believe this shot shows the "outer limits" end of the
creature who was hunting in my yard in Taylorsville, UT. © Carol Davis 5-19-
