Thread-waisted Wasp   (two photos)
Ammophila aberti

Ammophila aberti
I had just turned on to the road to Lytle Ranch in Washington County, Utah when I saw this skinny fuzzy wasp land.
 It
was there a long time so I managed to get a few shots. It was amazingly beautiful despite the fact it had its
tongue out and appeared to be licking a stick.  Carol Davis, 5-12-2013

I don't know why it stayed so long but I was excited just to watch it. I'd never seen a silver and orange
wasp quite like that before.  I finally drove off and left it to its business. Eric Eaton has a good article
on this species here.  Carol Davis, 5-12-2013
