Common Gray
Anavitrinella pampinaria

Common Gray geometrid moth - Anavitrinella pampinaria
I found this Geometrid species called the "Common Gray" in my yard in Taylorsville, Salt Lake County,
Utah. It was so
gray and lying so flat that it almost melted into the brick - very hard to photograph. According
to Bugguide, the larvae of this species "feed on apple, ash, clover, elm, pear, poplar, [and] willow." I have apple,
pear and elm in my yard. This is the first time I've seen this moth so I had to go page by page through
the Bugguide moths to identify this little thing (once I identified it as a Geometrid and then go through
all those pages - it took forever but I finally found it).   © Carol Davis 7-11-2015
