Gnophaela vermiculata
"Police Car Moth"

I found a migration of these along the road to Powder Mountain this lovely August day.  All of the
ones I saw had the middle white spot in the top row bleeding down into the bottom row of spots.  This
 is atypical for the species in the US and seems to be a local coloring.  © Carol Davis, 8-2-2009
