Many-plume Moth
Genus Alucitidae
possible species Alucita Montana
wing span 8-10 mm

Alucita Montana
This shot was taken with a flash and so the back half was washed out but it's such a beautiful moth that I had to post it.  The wings
look just like bird feathers (as opposed to "horse feathers"). I spotted this on the soffit right near my front porch light. I couldn't
believe it was so tiny and so beautiful. It was a bear to photograph because of its size and its distance from my camera - I had to stand
on a foot stool and it was no fun trying to get a steady shot.  Larvae of this species are borers. © Carol Davis 5-16-2012
