Underwing Moth
Catocala aholibah

Catocala aholibah
While walking down a wooded path at Red Butte Garden this moth flew in front of me and
landed on the trunk of a tree. I was praying the whole time I was leaning over a drop-off in front
of the tree that I could get the shot before the moth got scared off by my wobbling camera and
subsequent flash. The larvae of this species feed on oak, of which there
is plenty in the area.
