Jumping Spider
Colonus hesperus
previously Thiodina hesperus

jumping spider
Colonus hesperus on the Emerald Pools trail in Zion National Park. Carol Davis 5-20-2008

A friend pointed out this strange-looking spider and I knew immediately that she was a
species I hadn't seen before. She was so slow moving I thought she might be in the
last stages of "pregnancy". This is the only species of Colonus in the western U.S.
and, according to Bugguide, "hespera" means western.    Carol Davis, 5-20-2006
