Running Crab
Spider, Part II
Apollophanes margareta

This small male Philodromus Apollophanes margareta
has the longest legs I have seen
yet
on a crab spider. I thought at first it had to be a cellar
spider but one look at the body and eyes closely told the
tale. Definitely a crab spider. I
know the male Long-legged Sac
Spider
(yellow sac spider) has much longer legs than the female so maybe this
is the case with
Philodromus. I wish I could have gotten
better photos but I had to stand on my tip toes to even get these
shots. © Carol Davis, 3-18-2009
